Simms Fall Run Hoody

It's a puffy jacket... I know, but hear me out. I have owned many puffy jackets over the years and this thing is a machine. The face fabric is super durable and can stand up to all the crap an angler can put it through. I am super hard on this type of thing, and this is the first one that has survived more than one season on my body. I will also add that it is a perfect SF-weight jacket. It even features pockets with zippers and an internal chest pocket for the phone. If that's not enough, it comes in multiple colors: a jacket version (no hood), a "shacket," a hybrid version, a vest (no arms), and women's sizes. All at pretty reasonable prices, ranging from $119 to $199! One pro tip is they run a bit on the large side, so if you are "marge" or "smedium" go with the smaller size.

The World's Coolest Reel

Ooof, a good reel. Amiright? We've all skimped on fly reels before, and we caught just as many fish, but there is something about a well-built reel that is a perfect match for the setup. The only reels I added to my collection this year was a Galvan Grip 7. I put it on my LCO Golden Gate for fishing the beaches, and I have been really happy with it. I also picked up a Sage Trout Reel because I don't think they will be around too much longer. The two on my list are the Hatch Endless Summer Edition. The pink and yellow color way is fire IMO. The other is on the much more classic end of the spectrum in the Hardy Sovereign. The thing has a modern drag and the ability to go to stealth mode with a clicker-off button.... Classy AF. That way, when you hook one in the line up you won't call any unwanted attention.

They are surrounded by water and filled with anglers who travel hours to go fishing when they can find complete peace on the beaches (early morning and evening of course.) Fishing the beaches has become one of my favorite forms of fishing over the past couple of years. I manage my fair of fishing trips every year, but I also keep a rad garden, have a small business, family, and dog so maintaining balance is important. I manage to sneak in fishing a couple of days a week, chasing stripers on the beach. It's so good... Do it, you'll thank me later, I promise.
